Curriculum
This is a great approach to support educators in breaking down learning objectives and concepts to present them in a fun and interactive way for the learners in their class and provides clearly presented and easy to follow resources, visuals and videos.

What is the Accessible Curriculum?
-
The Accessible Curriculum contains lesson plans and activities that guide teachers and support staff to facilitate learning in line with the National Curriculum. The lessons are highly practical and focus on communication and engagement to provide access to a wide variety of pupils. The pace is flexible to allow pupils to really understand a topic before they progress and allow teachers to support pupils at multiple levels in one class.
Who is the Accessible Curriculum for?
-
Mainstream or Specialist?
The Accessible Curriculum can be used in Mainstream and Specialist schools. The activities are best used with small groups, leading them to be perfect for provisions in Mainstream schools, or whole class learning in Specialist schools.

A Term Of Connection
One of the biggest barriers to education faced by SEND pupils is feeling safe in school. The first half term of the Reception curriculum is focussed on pupils learning about their new environment and building connections with their teachers. This term gives teachers time to learn about each pupil and ensure that future lessons are appropriate for their methods of communication, sensory differences and individual preferences.
Subjects
The curriculum aims to provide access to subjects that are often dismissed for SEND pupils because of their complex nature. Each subject follows the plan set out by the national curriculum but the timeframe is flexible allowing for the natural development of the pupils in each class.
You will note that literacy is not an independent subject, however it is a key component of the other areas of learning. The curriculum is designed to be used alongside your current phonics programme. In addition, every subject includes lessons on relevant words, stories to read and comprehension activities, all based on the relevant topic.
